If you are in the Bay Area and want to learn more about the Silicon Valley, then check out the Computer History Museum (http://www.computerhistory.org/) at Mt. View, CA. This place is right of US-101
.
It has been awhile I been there and it was free for me since it is free for students (with ID), seniors (65+) and active military (with ID). They are open during 10am to 5pm and closes on Monday and Tuesday. This place is very kid friendly and the exhibits are easy to follow and see how modern computers came to be.
The museum is near to Google and Microsoft building. So there could be a traffic if you are there during a rush hour. After museum, you can drive to near by Shoreline Park and Lake to relax and for a short walk by the lake. The weather is very pleasant and very nice to enjoy the cool air by the lake.
